So for a while my friends have been talking about getting together and playing some blue grass / Irish Folk music. We finally did on Tuesday night. We picked out a few songs for Talent night at my church on March 1st and we played. They really didn't have any bass tabs or music, but they did have chords and for bass guitar, it's just a matter of playing the notes in the chord one at a time. I surprised myself on how easily I picked up on it.
We'll have another practice next week, however, I got copied of the lead melodies and put them into my guitar program and then from that, knowing the chord, I was able to write my own bass lines. Guitar Pro (the name of the application I use) can play the music back using various instruments in its MIDI library, so it was pretty easy to make some bass lines because I could hear the main line and the bass line at the same time.
It's fun.
We'll see how it sounds when we get together next week. Meanwhile, it'll be a lot of practicing for me.
I bought an acoustic bass guitar, but it hasn't arrived yet and the tracking information hasn't changed, so I called the vendor and they'll put a trace on it. They said it could take 8 to 10 days. I hope not, I'd like to practice on the actual instrument that I'm going to use. Bluegrass is supposed to be acoustic only.
